A New Ten Commandments
1. Have respect for the beliefs of everyone; if people believe in a different God, it is necessary for you to have respect for that person. If people believe in homosexuality or another belief that differs from your own ideology respect their agency to have their own beliefs. This means more than to just tolerate other peoples’ beliefs.
2. “Treat others as you want to be treated.” It is your responsibility to show other people how you want to be treated which can only be done by your own actions of how you treat them. If you want to be treated like an incompetent child then continue to act as an ignorant juvenile. If you want to be treated as an intelligent human being then you should act accordingly.
3. Keep your promises. Don’t build up someone’s trust only to shatter it later. Keeping your promises will help people respect you and believe in you.
4. Take some time to rest. While work is necessary your body is not meant to rush around constantly. Every person has down time for a reason. Set aside one day every week for the purpose of relaxing and letting your body rejuvenate from the work of the week before and prepare for the upcoming week.
5. Younger people should respect their elders and elder people should respect the younger age group: both generations have lived in great times and both are having unique experiences that will define each generation. Having respect does not mean you have to live exactly the same. Those in a younger age bracket should learn from their elders while those of the older generation should have respect for the new thinking age that has arrived with your children and grandchildren.
6. It’s still wrong to kill others so it should still be a commandment to not kill others. Killing is taking away the right to choose for others.
7. Don’t mistreat other people. Your conduct is important for how other people view and treat you so it is necessary to not treat others inappropriately. Don’t use other people for your sadistic pleasures. Don’t take advantage of the weak.
8. Value education because it is basically what will get you through the rest of your life. If you wish to live above mediocrity you have to work for it but first you need to obtain an education. Take all your studies seriously because you will not be able to go back in life to start over.
9. Work for what you want. You will feel accomplished and have a sense of ownership that you can later be proud of. If you want a new car make sure you have worked enough to be able to afford it. This holds true for any and all accommodations of life.
10. Live the rule of give and take. Expecting others to give you everything will only land you in trouble since others will loathe carrying you when you aren’t willing to carry them. If you wish to receive help you must first show you are willing to give help. Any relationship is a give and take relationship. People will grow tired of you if you only take.
